If you wanted tickets for the World Series, how many people will you be competing against? I like to think in numbers so here’s my quick math:
According to the swami known as Wikipedia, Denver’s population was approximately 2.5 Million in 2006. I’d guess that the population was risen a few thousand in the last year.
There are approximately 18,000 tickets available for each World Series game at Coors Field.
There are 3 possible games for a grand total of 54,000 tickets available.
Each person can purchase up to 4 tickets and lets assume most people will buy 4 tickets for only one of the games. (If you had a brain you’d buy 4.)
That leaves only 13,500 sets of 4 tickets.
Here’s the kicker, they’re only available online.
Children typically make 25% of the population so the 2.5 million drops to 1.8.
Let’s just say that half the people don’t care about the Rockies or at least don’t care about going to the game. We’re now at 900K.
And not everyone has access to the internet so again lets slash by 50% to 450K.
And not everyone that has access to the internet will be available at 10 AM next Monday again slash by 50% to 225K.
And not everyone that has access to the internet next Monday has broadband again slash by 50% to 113K.
113K will be competing for 13K tickets.
Ever been to a game at the Big House? Imagine going through the turnstile at Michigan Stadium with that many people at the same time. Qwest, Comcast, and all other internet providers better be ready. Throw statistics and probability out the window, getting tickets to the World Series is going to be MADNESS!

Coors Field, great views on and off the field

Interesting article from the Rocky Mountain News:
Prospects of the Colorado Rockies playing in the World Series could cast an even-brighter spotlight on whether the mountain view from Coors Field should be protected.

Every 10 Years
Filed Under colorado, denver, sports | Leave a Comment
It seems like every ten years a baseball team comes along and makes me want to watch baseball.
1986: When I was a kid, the 1986 Mets were my team. I lived and died watching them. I couldn’t sleep when they lost and I couldn’t sleep when they won. Looking back it seems silly to lose sleep over what happens with a sports team considering it has ZERO impact on your life. When they won the World Series, it was amazing.
1996: I stopped watching baseball after the strike scandal plus I had A LOT of other things going on in my life. However, there was a Yankee team with a rookie shortstop that was more substance than style. They were different. They were helped by a kid in the right field stands against the Orioles. Then they won four in a row against the Braves.
2007: (Close Enough) Ever since I moved here, I’ve enjoyed going to see the Rockies play at Coors Field. There are no tolls, parking is super cheap and they’re surrounded by bars and taverns. Two years ago the Rockies got younger quickly. They called it Generation R and it seemed like a huge mistake until the Rockies brought up a young shortstop who’s more substance than style and who wears #2 (sound familiar). Despite the fact that major league baseball has a major league steroid issue, I’ve enjoyed the Rockies run this year and they made watching baseball fun!
Go ROX!

Random sports observations
Filed Under blog, sports | Leave a Comment
I’ll always like sports more than mortgages so here are some very random sports observations:
- Joba Chamberlain of the Yankees is a BIG BOY and ESPN should televise EVERY Yankees vs Red Sox game. It’s 18 games of pure baseball magic.
- Willie Randolph of the Mets and Clint Hurdle of the Rockies have the same problem, they both have terrible bullpens. Clint Hurdle is better at managing his putrid pen.
- For all the traffic issues the Rockies cause in downtown Denver, they finally made up for it with a decent season and “meaningful games” in September.
- The boys from Florida State are much faster than the crew CU has from Texas, California and some parts of Colorado. Cody Hawkins will be very good in a year or two.
- Matt Holiday is having a great year playing left field at Coors Field. I have a feeling Ryan Spillborghs will be playing left field next year.
- The Broncos are a very lucky team. Two weeks of pure luck. I hope that they’re lucky when they play the Colts or the Patriots in the playoffs in January.
- The NFC is up for grabs but in the AFC it will really come down to the Patriots and Colts. Unless of course Tom Brady finally gets the beating of the week by the Red Sox nation for wearing a Yankees cap in public.
- Tiger won the Fed Ex Cup. Did we really needed more assurance that Tiger is the best?
- Charlie Weis brought respectability back to Notre Dame just like Britany Spears brought respectability back to Britany Spears at the 2007 VMAs.

Musings on my search results
Filed Under blog | Leave a Comment
I’d like to think that my blog is unique, I don’t just blog about mortgages cause quite frankly mortgages isn’t the most exiting subject on the planet. Most mortgage brokers don’t blog (do they even know what a blog is?) so I thought blogging would separate me from the pack. Most of my traffic is derived via Google searches. When I started blogging I sent my url to my past clients, friends, etc. and over the past couple of months I’ve received links from other blogs and sites, but I still get more traffic from google than any other medium. It’s not even close.
Here are some of the search terms (in UPPER CASE) that were used to find my site:
- NY PIZZA in DENVER: If there’s something I know, it’s NY Pizza. The site for Original New York Pizza is www.originalpizza.us and it’s located here: 1300 W Midway Blvd in Broomfield, CO 80020 to order a pie call (303) 469-9117. Pantaleone’s is another good NY Pizza joint despite the owners being from Soprano country (NJ) here’s their address: 2120 S Holly St # 6 Denver, CO 80222 and number (303) 757-3456.
- My DENVER BLOG covers Denver real estate, Denver trends, Denver mortgages, and just about anything the gooey substance above my medulla oblongata comes up with.
- TEDY BRUSCHI of the New England Patriots is one of my favorite NFL players because he plays the way the game should be played and yes, he’s HALF-FILIPINO and HALF-ITALIAN. DEAN CAIN and WILL FERRELL are not Filipino.
- You can buy STARBURY SNEAKERS in DENVER, Colorado, you can go to Steve and Barry’s located at 8501 West Bowles Avenue in Littleton, CO 80123 call them at 303-904-7513 for directions.
- FORECLOSURE is a hot topic in COLORADO and DENVER. Fellow Colorado bloggers have tried to minimize the problem. When 90% of the leads that I get from my websites is from Colorado Home Owners facing foreclosure, I’d say foreclosure is a problem. Any way you cut it, people don’t want to lose their homes and saying “sorry, I can’t help you” really sucks!
- KOSI 101 plays CHRISTMAS MUSIC. Tune to 101.1 on your FM dial.
- DENVER is not going through a HOUSING BUBBLE BURST. Denver may have flat lined in terms of property value over the past 4 to 5 years but Denver’s real estate hasn’t popped. Who in their right mind would want to move to a booming city that features 300 days of sunshine a year, skiing in our backyard, hiking, biking, great sports, light rail, international airport, great restaurants, and affordable housing? (sarcasm)
- THE NEXT WASHINGTON PARK could very well be Stapleton, Lowry, Riverfront or anywhere near the Pedestrian Bridge. A realtor would probably be a better person to ask (now there’s an idea for a blog post) so if you need a realtor, just ask. I only work with realtors that won’t waste your time or mine.
- The DIFFERENCE between a MORTGAGE PLANNER and a MORTGAGE BROKER: a mortgage planner actually gives a rats ass about you as a human being and your long term future. For the record, I consider myself a MORTGAGE PLANNER.
- HGTV is scouting for new home buyers in the DENVER metro area for their show, MY FIRST PLACE. However, I think this train came and left.
- REAL WORLD DENVER takes place in LoDo (Lower Downtown) and no I won’t be making any cameos on the show. I believe they filmed the show on Market Street a stone throw away from Coors Field. I’d actually like to see MTV show music videos like they did when I was a kid.
- CASEY SERIN is facing FORECLOSURE and blogging (www.iamfacingforeclosure.com) about it. The guy is going through hell.
- DENVER FIX and FLIP and FLIPPING HOUSES in DENVER, please refer to Casey Serin’s blog before you call me about a loan.
- Yes, there are NY JETS FANS IN DENVER. I’m a die hard NY Jets fan but I don’t know what bar the NY Jets fans congregate. A few years ago it was the Sports Column but when I showed up in my Vinny Testaverde Jersey, there were more Pats fans in the house. Old Chicago on 14th and Market is always a good bet, they show all the games.
- ALTUS HOME LOANS is not the most reputable mortgage company in Colorado. Their DECEIVING ADS are what they are that’s why they’re in trouble. What’s more concerning is that we want politicians to clean up the mortgage mess. What’s the difference between politicians and a mortgage company? They too make just about any promise necessary to get the deal (elected), then fall short of expectations time and time again.
- You really need TITLE INSURANCE in Colorado it’s necessary and not a JUNK FEE.
- WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE DENVER BRONCOS? I don’t have that line anywhere on any of my posts but here’s my answer is “Jake the Snake is not John Elway and neither is Jay Cutler!”

Top Five Fridays - Colorado Rockies
Filed Under sports, top five | Leave a Comment
After getting some grief from some friends for not putting John Elway in my top five Broncos, I decided to list my top five Rockies. Unlike the Broncos, I like the Rockies. They play at Coors Field, which is one of the best stadiums in the country.

- Todd Helton: When Todd took over first base he suplanted the uber popular Andres Gallaraga. Todd has proved all the critics wrong with his solid and consistent play.
- Andres Galarraga: “El Gato” or “The Cat” was the face of the franchise in their early years. The original Blake Street Bomber. His finished his career one home run shy of 400
- Walt Weis: A former Rookie of the Year for the Oakland A’s, Walt was arguably the best leadoff hitter in Rockies history.
- Dante Bichette: Another member of the Blake Street Bombers. He manned left field for seven years.
- Preston Wilson: He was only here for a cup of coffee. In other words Preston wasn’t around very long. However, he makes the list because he’s the son of one of my favorite players - NY Met Mookie Wilson.
- Rockbottom - 16th and Champa, I used to work 11 floors above it so i’m a little biased
- Bull and Bush - Glendale, it’s right of Cherry Creek South and between Holly and Cherry
- Cherry Cricket - despite being in heart of trendy Cherry Creek, the Cricket has the feel of a college hangout
- Fado’s - across from Coors field in LoDo, a good old fashioned Irish pub
- Old Chicago - they’re a chain but they serve Genny Cream Ale. If you don’t know what Genny Cream Ale is, go to Old Chicago and find out.
- Original NY Pizzeria - althought they’re in Broomfield, CO which is about 20 minutes from Denver, they the best and most authentic NY style pizza. After all, the owner is from Brooklyn, NY.
- Two Fisted Marios - 16th and Market, don’t be fooled by their looks, the staff is the best!
- Anthony’s - Various locations throughout Denver but I like the one by Kennedy Golf Course on Dartmouth and Hampden. Two slices and a cold Coors won’t set you back much.
- Pantaleones - tucked in a small shopping center by Evans and Holly, these Jersey guys have the best crust.
- NY Pizzeria - somewhere on Leetsdale, the place is always packed at lunch.

Tie goes to the runner
Filed Under mortgage, sports | Leave a Comment

On Sunday with temperatures easily hitting 100 degrees in Denver, a friend and I decided to catch the Rockies play the San Diego Padres at Coors Field. Our seats were on the 3rd base side so we avoided the blazing sun for most of the day.
Jason Jennings was pitching for the Rockies. I remember the first game Jason pitched back in 2001 against the NY Mets. He pitched a 1 hitter and hit a home run. Jason gets his fair share of ground ball outs. Sometimes it’s a good thing because he doesn’t give up a lot of home runs and sometimes it’s a bad thing because Clint Barmes and Garret Atkins are sub par defenders. Note: Barmes has 12 errors. Atkins has 15 errors. Their total (27) is actually the same amount as Derek Jeter (9) and Alex Rodriquez (18).
During the game, Jason induced several ground ball outs. However, a couple of times, the umpire called the batter safe. Each time the batter was called safe, a guy in the stands wearing a Padres hat, stood up to applaud the call and said to a rather tame Rockies crowd - “ties goes to the runner!”
Under further scrutiny:
Rule 6.05 A batter is out when: After a third strike or after he hits a fair ball, he or first base is tagged before he touches first base.
There is no such rule. You’re either safe or you’re out. There’s no tie. Just like Snufalufugus, “Tie Goes to the Runner” is just a figment of our imagination. It’s a hoax.
Rockies won 3-1.

Top Five Fridays - Denver Brew Pubs/Bars
