Unless you live in a city sprawling with Filipinos such as San Diego (Chula Vista or National City) it’s rare to find a Filipino restaurant in a your neighborhood.

If you live in Denver, it’s been very rare ever since the Nipa Hut closed almost a decade ago. Enter the Tropical Grill, located in the outskirts of Denver on Iliff and Peoria in Aurora.

Being of Roman descent (Alfedena for those who like geography) I prefer Caesar to Czar:

Susan Foley, recently appointed “foreclosure czar” for the city of Denver, has seen firsthand the impact of people losing their homes.

According to the article, Susan Foley has been a planner for Denver’s economic development office for 20 years and also works as a real estate agent.

Another story about moving up to the condo in the sky:

Erik Osborn is planning to transform a nondescript office building in downtown Denver into a luxury residential tower with condos priced at more than $1 million.

Driving down Broadway the other day I did a double take as I passed what used to be a 7-11. It was turned into a Kwik-E-Mart as a promotion for the upcoming Simpsons movie. You can get your fix of Buzz cola, Krusty O’s and Squishees.

Interesting links from the web:

The Denver Post has a great article, Sales surge for digs over $1M, on why the upper end homes are selling like hot cakes. Denver homes in the million dollar range are doing very well because move up buyers have done well with their investments in the stock market. Moving up like George and Weezie!

Speaking of luxury properties, I ran into my friend Dan at the Denver based real estate and mortgage blogger meet up last week. He now works for LuxuryProperty.com, a site that specializes in million dollar homes nationwide. Look for their launch very soon.

Jonathan Miller of Miller Samuel discusses when prices rise, people remodel. Anyone who links to a Roxy Music clip is pure genius in my book!

Just like every kid, I grew up playing soccer. It’s the premier sport in the world. Somehow it just doesn’t have mass appeal in America. Consider that Denver just hosted the Major League Soccer all-star game, did anyone care?

Chinatown real estate is hot according to CBS. This begs the question where is Chinatown in Denver? My best guess is Alameda & Federal area with their wide array of Chinese restaurants.

Here’s the concept:

  1. Buy a bungalow in the Observatory Park area of Denver
  2. Scrape the aforementioned bungalow
  3. Build a million dollar home
  4. Sell the aforementioned million dollar home
  5. Have the proceeds of the sale benefit someone else

Here’s the story:

A brand new custom home located at 2511 South Garfield Street with an appraised value of more than $1.15 million will be sold with all the profits going to the University Park Elementary School, the neighborhood elementary school, and the Rise School, a preschool that focuses on the needs of toddlers and preschoolers with developmental disabilities.

Here’s the house:
